Spousal support is one of the considerations in many divorces. In our previous blog, we discussed some mistakes that are made regarding alimony. It is important that you avoid those mistakes. We can help you do just that.

One thing that often occurs in divorces is that the parties are so rushed to get the divorce completed that they don’t think about what is going to happen in the months and years following the divorce. This is a huge mistake because the last thing you need is for the effects of your marriage to follow you.

If you think that you might have to pay your ex alimony as part of the divorce, we can work with you to find out what might happen. In some cases, we can work a deal ahead of time so that you know exactly what you will have to pay.

There are two ways that alimony can be paid. One is a lump sum and the other is a monthly payment. If possible, you might consider trying to pay a lump sum to your ex. In this case, you likely wouldn’t have to continue to pay monthly payments, which means you could cut that tie with your ex after the lump sum payment.

In some cases, such as if you have a minor child together, you might have to pay child support each month. This might mean that you don’t mind having to make a monthly alimony payment so you wouldn’t have to take the financial hit of a lump sum payment. We can help you to explore both of these options to see which one we need to work toward.
