Child support is important, be sure to understand the orders

In our previous blog post, we discussed how child support modifications can help people who are ordered to pay child support but have had a change in circumstances and aren't able to pay as ordered. It is very important that anyone who is ordered to pay child support does so as ordered. Failure to do so, even if you lost your job, can lead to significant legal issues.

The other problem with not paying child support is that your child won't have that financial support. If the other parent counts on your support to pay bills, those bills might be late. This could prove to be devastating, especially if the bills are those for the necessities of life.

We know that things sometimes happen that will make you unable to pay your child support. When this is the case, you should take action right away so that you can take the steps necessary to get the support order modified.

When you seek a modification of your child support order, your child's other parent will know that you aren't able to pay child support. This might give that parent a chance to make alternate plans to make ends meet until the child support order can be changed.

Even if you opt to seek a child support modification, you should continue to pay as much as you can. Not only will this help you to avoid getting too far behind, it will also provide your child with at least some measure of support. We know that this might be difficult, but making an effort now can help you to avoid trouble in the future.
