Halle Berry to divorce Olivier Martinez

This has sure seemed like the year for celebrity divorces. Another celebrity couple is calling it quits on their marriage: Halley Berry and Olivier Martinez. The two have only been married two short years, but on Oct. 27, the couple released a statement detailing their decision to divorce. The two were married in July 2013 in France.

Divorce documents cite irreconcilable differences as the reason for the split. There is a child involved, a 2-year-old son. Berry also has a 6-year-old daughter. Gabriel Aubry is that child's father.

Berry, 49, has been through divorce before -- twice, in fact. Her first marriage was to David Justice, a baseball player. Her second marriage was to Eric Benet, an R&B singer. She had told the media before marrying Martinez that she would not marry again, but said, "Who knew?" in April 2012.

The Academy Award winning actress is known for her roles in the X-Men movies and Monster's Ball. Martinez is also an actor, with the films "Swat" and "Unfaithful" in his credits. The couple met while filming "Dark Tide."

In many high asset divorces, a prenuptial agreement can help keep the divorce civil. It's not known if the two had such an agreement, but it is likely. As the case progresses through the court, the world will learn more about how this couple plans to address issues like child support, child custody and property division.

If you are considering divorce and have a lot of assets, it's best to have experienced legal representation by your side. He or she can help ensure your rights are protected as you move forward.
