While you’re in court, fighting for custody of your child in Connecticut, it’s sometimes hard to think about anything but the immediate goal at hand: winning that custody battle. If you do, though, it’s important to remember that you now have a lot of responsibilities, such as:
1. The need to stick to any parenting plan or visitation schedule.
You’ve probably reached some agreement with your spouse. You now need to work to make sure it is carried out, even if this takes a lot of planning on your end.
2. Keeping track of what payments have been made, if applicable.
This won’t apply in cases where child support is not paid, but, for most parents, keeping track of these payments is very helpful. You need to make sure your child gets the money he or she needs.
3. Working together.
There are times when you and your spouse need to put your differences aside and work together, such as when a large decision has to be made on your child’s behalf. It is your responsibility to make sure the decision made is the best one for your child.
4. Sticking to the plan yourself.
You also have to make sure that the parenting plan and custodial agreement are honored on your end. For example, this can make it difficult or even impossible to move if it would take the child a long way from the other parent. Know what legal ramifications there are to your plan, understand how you have to honor them, and check all of your actions to be sure that they fall within that plan.
