While most divorces are completed in a timely manner, there are some that seem to drag on and on. One such celebrity divorce is that between Bethenny Frankel and Jason Hoppy.
It’s been three years now that the two have been battling in court. The major point of contention? The couple’s apartment. Each of them wants the apartment and they haven’t backed down at all. Frankel says she’s the one who put money into the apartment. Hoppy says that he put money into it, too.
Frankel told Hollywood Life that her divorce “is sort of like a drop of poison in the ocean.” She says the divorce isn’t weighing on her every day like it used to. A year and a half ago, Frankel said she didn’t have a place to live and was changing clothes in her car. Now, she says she’s a lot more centered.
For now, the end of the divorce doesn’t seem in sight. But that is how some divorces go. The spouses have to determine what is important to them and what they can do without. In many instances, there is simply no giving in.
This is when alternative dispute resolution may come in handy. Collaborative law or mediation could help the two spouses find common ground. If not, the case will eventually go in front of a judge, who will make a final determination.
An experienced divorce lawyer can help you determine what you give on and what you won’t. In addition, he or she can help you understand the law and how it can affect your case.
