by | Sep 28, 2018 | Child Support, Firm News |

While many people wonder how they can get more child support, some people actually have a different problem. That problem is receiving too much. How much child support is too much child support? It’s a sincere question that should be answered.

When child support requirements increase, there is no question that it puts a strain on one of the two parents. While child support is based on income and means, it doesn’t mean that paying child support is easy.

The biggest question for some families is how much support is too much?

What a judge wants to look at is how much money a person needs to survive while still being able to support their children. The goal is never to put the father or mother in a position where they cannot live a comfortable lifestyle. While it is important for the individual to pay a portion of their income toward child support, paying so much that they are unable to buy food or pay normal expenses is excessive.

What should you do if you think you are paying too much in support?

If you believe that you are paying too much, have a change in job circumstances or have a change in your expenses, it is a good idea to talk to the judge again. You can speak with your attorney about the changes in your life and seek to modify the child support arrangement you have presently. A modification could be a way to reduce how much you have to pay while not forgoing the responsibility you took on by having children.
